This is our dog Cajun. She's almost 10 and has lived/is living a long and healthy life. The only thing she seems to struggle with is ear infections. She had one last month but I was secretly hoping it would go away. I went down to feed her one morning and her right ear flap looked like an apple turnover. It was big and squishy. After taking her to the vet, they said her ear had a hematoma. It was from shaking her head so much with the ear infection. They had to put a drain in it and one of these "Queen Ann" collars. With this big thing on she couldn't fit through her doggy door anymore so has been sleeping and living in the house 24/7. This is her second drain, she got the first one out somehow and this is also her second collar. She is not dainty and if she bumps into something she just keeps going and takes chunks of her collar along with it.
Now the second drain is out (thanks to her doing) and the collar is gone but the hematoma is not. The vet took pitty on us and realized we almost needed to take out a second mortgage to pay our vet bill. So every day, a couple of times a day, I get to "massage" or squeeze her ear to get the fluid out that continutes to build up in her ear. These hematoma's usually only last a week or two. We are now on week 4!
